Regional Geographical Associations: their role in promoting international research in Geography. Regional Geographical Associations are key organizations to promote international cooperation in geography research. They gather geographers from different countries in order to collaborate in the promotion of geographical knowledge. In Europe particularly, the international integration between the States created the European Union, contributing to raise awareness of the importance of cross border understanding. But also, in the Americas and in Asia, links are strengthening between geographers from different countries of the same continent. Regional Geographical Associations promote their respective conferences, publications, projects and research or training activities, fostering an specific transnational body of knowledge for geography and geographers. Regional Geographical Associations are key organizations for the achievement of the main objective for this conference "Geography: bridging the continents", but also to contribute to the tasks of IGU and National Committees for promoting scientific geography dissemination.
